Not every existing process deserves automation.
This can be a process change, model, report, integration, script, workflow or other automation.
A solution must work with exceptions, unusual months and real users.
The organization should not become structurally dependent on me.
Why
It is a waste when experienced people routinely spend time searching, retyping, checking, repairing and waiting. Not only because it is inefficient, but because their judgement and experience are scarce. When improving a process, I therefore look beyond cycle time or cost to where human attention is genuinely needed.
Work
A few examples of questions where I did not stop at the analysis.
I captured recurring processing, controls and output in a fixed close run. The month-end close went from around three days to a maximum of two hours; the quarter-end close from around three days to around one and a half hours.
Controllable, auditable and adaptable when the work changes.
For PDF tasks that otherwise required licences, I built an internal tool in around half an hour. It is now used almost every day.
A small solution for a recurring, practical need.
With PSR, I build reports, dashboards and management information from CargoWise data, making operational information usable in daily management.
From source data to information someone can act on.
Technology
An organization usually already has an ERP, reporting tools, databases and workflows. I do not come in to sell that landscape again. I want to understand where processes and systems do not connect well and what can be improved with the means already available. Where needed, I build the missing connection or automation myself.
Enough technical depth not to stop at advice.
About me
My background is in finance and control; my work increasingly sits in the processes and systems around it.
In more and more assignments, the structural answer was not in the report itself, but in the process or system before it. That is why I now also design and build the missing integrations, controls and automation.
